Basement Detroit Concert reviews
Doobie Brothers Alone
The Doobie Brothers concert at UPMC Events Center on Robert Morris University’s campus was a welcome departure from the classic bands' greatest hits tours so often touted. The band sets itself apart by keeping the energy up as if this was their first tour, while showing a genuine appreciation for their band mates; the three frontmen have been together for most of the last 40 years.
The show at UPMC featured a mix of hits and deep album cuts from the Doobies’ second album through the reunion album “Cycles” from the late 80s. This additional material played at UPMC really made the show a broader demonstration of the band’s talents and diverse catalog, as seen in set lists from their current tour with Santana.
Hats off to Robert Morris University and the staff at this new arena; the whole experience, including traffic handling afterwards, was top notch. Making the drive to Pittsburgh from Cleveland was definitely worth it to witness this show that showcased the Doobie Brothers in a deeper light compared to the combination show with Santana. Having been a fan for 40-odd years, they still prove to be a great live act, and I wouldn't hesitate to see another show there.
